Jewelry Studies with Cable Ties

These are a couple of studies I recently completed using cable ties to make necklaces. I'm loving the colours and patterns you can produce with them. The final piece I created is a very dramatic and 3-dimensional collar but I will save it to share in my upcoming book on found objects/recycled materials in jewelry. Enjoy the teaser + give a shout!

Just saw some fantastic mobiles made from these ties, the follow on class to my Time Machine and Rag rug project.

Sweet, where did you see the mobiles? I'd love to see them.

Comments on Ganoksin about this post:

Very cool! I had no idea zip ties came in that many colors! (Guess we learn something new every day, huh?) The collar sounds awesome- can’t wait to see it.

Jane Walker says:
Fun things, Heather. And you can go much further with the concept! A colleague here in West Australia did a stunning series of ‘colliers’, brooches and bracelets using the swing tags used to attach price tags to clothing … combined with 18K gold, which wasn’t quite as expensive then. You can see some of them here: http://www.christelvanderlaan.com/

I'm a fan of jewelry using recycled materials! Nice. Having the option to play with color seems interesting.

I love your jewelry Kerrie. Some of it reminds me if sea life in particular barnacles which makes it breathe and feel believable.

Thanx for stopping in.

Peace.
